Greenprint ·
A Greenprint is to a community what a blueprint is to an architect. In general, a Greenprint is a map delineating the natural, cultural, and historic resources of an area. Just like a blueprint, it is a sketch of an area’s structure, including maps of existing land use, groundwater recharge areas, agricultural land, tree cover, environmental factors, water resources/streams and lakes, development/infrastructure, and historic areas.
Because Morgan County’s quality of life and agricultural community are threatened by the ever-expanding development of Metropolitan Atlanta, the Madison-Morgan Conservancy thought the first step in protecting Morgan County’s uniqueness was to inventory the county and illustrate what resources existed. The local leadership agreed, and through a three-way partnership with the Conservancy, the City of Madison, and Morgan County, we have created the state’s first county-wide Greenprint with the aid of the Trust for Public Land and Robert and Co. consultants.
Visioning meetings were held during which the public educated the mapping consultants on the existing resources of the county. Those resources were mapped, and drafts of the map were presented during Town Hall meetings. The Greenprint has been adopted as part of the Comprehensive Plan in 2004 and is an excellent planning tool, which can be used for years to come in planning the future growth of Morgan County.
Below you can see the final map with all the resources present. If you would like to see larger maps or know more about the Greenprint, please call us to set up a time to meet. We will be glad to give you much more detail about the maps, the process of creation, and the future use of this planning tool.
